Edward Bernsteyn placed 2,500 fluorescent garden gnomes around a coffin in the Pauluskerk in Breukelen. The gnomes were WhatsApp-ing. The installation, titled Sorry, you were saying, asks how we communicate, and when we actually stop listening.
For the installation I created the sound design: a one-hour loop of phone notification sounds, buzzes, typing sounds and incoming messages. The work later travelled to, among others, the Amsterdam Light Festival.
